SOCIAL HISTORY LAB: THE CHINESE EXCLUSION ACT

This week, we’ve been discussing mid- to 19th century, including the Civil War. America is in a time of turmoil at the 100-year mark after establishing independence from Britain, and in Chapter 18 of the textbook, you briefly read about the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. Please review the Week 1 Lesson and discussion about the ethics of a historian and writing like an historian. Then, as you study like a social historian this week, please review the following documents and video about what is referred to as The Chinese Question. Write a two- to three-page essay that answers the following question: When you study these documents, how do you understand the relationship between the Chinese and Americans in California in the late 19th century?
