mock data for a research project you would like to conduct

This week you will use SPSS to create variables and enter data from a table in the textbook. This will give you practice working in the Variable View and Data View in SPSS. You will also create an SPSS file containing variables and mock data for a research project you would like to conduct, possibly for your dissertation. You will describe your variables and research project in a Word document. You will submit a total of three files for this weeks assignment: two SPSS data files and one Word document. Below are the details regarding what you will include in each file:

Part A. Creating a Data File. Open a data file in SPSS and enter the data presented in Table 3.1 on page 101. Save this SPSS data file as lastnamefirstinitialPSY7107-4a.sav (example: smithbPSY7107-4a.sav)

Part B. Create a mock research project. Submit your answers to the three questions below in a Word document. Name the file in the following format: lastnamefirstinitialPSY7107-4b.doc

Considering your area of research interest, briefly state your area and a possible research project related to the area (150-500 words)

Pose one or more null and alternative hypotheses that follow from the possible research project.

List at least 10 variables that could be used to answer the hypotheses. After the name of each variable, identify the level of measurement (nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio), and the possible range of scores. Feel free to be creative.

Part C. Create a mock SPSS data set. Save this file as lastnamefirstinitialPSY7107-4c.sav

Open a data file in SPSS and enter in a set of mock data for the research project you describe in Part B. (Note: It is important that you do not collect real data for this activity; you cannot collect data without IRB approval).

You must enter 10 rows of data for each of the 10 variables (that is, create data for 10 mock participants). Each row represents the scores of each mock participant on the ten variables.

Participant #1 must have missing data for Variable #3. Ensure this is coded correctly.

You should now have the following files:

    lastnamefirstinitialPSY7107-4a.sav (example: smithbPSY7107-4a.sav)
    lastnamefirstinitialPSY7107-4b.doc
    lastnamefirstinitialPSY7107-4c.sav

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your paper should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.
