Is it possible to lay out a page without a grid? Why or why not?
I do think it is possible to lay out a page without a grid, but it might not be that perfect than using grid. Because the grid is not just the way we are using in art, it also matches the rules in mathematics, therefore we could make that page seems logical and also comfortable. Pages without grids will look loose but may also achieve unexpected results, however the risk of errors is high and most likely will not succeed.
When and how does using a grid simplify the task of a graphic designer?
By using a grid, graphic designers could easily arrange texts and pictures, especially for typography, grids help a lot of rashes the sizes, leading, and kerning of fonts.
