Donohue Syndrome / Leprechaunism

Premise: You are a Scientist looking for research funding for your favorite disease.  You need to educate Congress and secure funding for research into your disease.  Unfortunately, the Congress men and woman (your classmates) have never had anatomy & physiology, so they need to be educated first to how the healthy system should function and then educated on your favorite disease.

Directions: Your task is, using your knowledge of anatomy and physiology, write a paper to educate Congress and secure funding for your research.  Remember to address the following points.  The paper should be a minimum of four (4) pages and maximum of six (6) pages. Cite all sources in APA format within your answer text as well as full citations in APA format at the end of the assignment as references.

Identify your disease
What are the symptoms of your disease?
Who does the disease affect?
Is this disease chronic?
How does your disease change the normal healthy system?
Explain the anatomy of the organ system involved (organs/tissues)
Explain the physiology of the normal healthy organ system involved (how do the organs work)
Why is the organ system affected important to the over all homeostasis of the body? (be specific)
What goes wrong to the organ system when this disease is contracted?
Anatomy and physiology changes
What are the risk factors or causative agents of your disease?
What is the impact on society of this disease?
Social and economic impact
Epidemics
Is this disease world-wide or located in one area of the world?
What are the treatments (if any) for this disease?
Are the treatments effective?
Is the damage irreversible?
What areas of research need to be started or continued?
What else needs to be done or learned about to rid the world of this disease?
Congress (your classmates) have $100,000 to spend on all of the diseases presented. How much should Congress put toward your disease and why?
Why should Congress put money toward researching your disease?

DO NOT COPY THE BOOK. Put each answer into your own words, but still remember to go into detail about the anatomy and physiology of the systems (What are the individual pieces, How do the individual pieces work?). What is your disease and how does it damage or affect the organ system?
