“Law Enforcement Preferences for PTSD Treatment and Crisis Management Alternatives”

“Characterizing Perceived Police Violence: Implications for Public Health”

“Helping First Responders Withstand Traumatic Experiences”

“The Effectiveness of Individual Wellness Counseling on the Wellness of Law Enforcement Officers”

Review the “Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychologists.” Consider the guidelines that are relevant to forensic psychology professionals providing support and interventions to police professionals.

Review the book excerpt, “Confidentiality of Psychological Information and the HIPAA in Police Psychology.” Think about the ethical guidelines and issues forensic psychology professionals could face when providing support and interventions to police professionals.

Select two challenges that forensic psychology professionals face when encouraging police professionals to utilize available psychological support and interventions. Consider how you would address these challenges.

Select one ethical issue related to forensic psychology professionals providing support and interventions to police professionals. Think about the ethical guidelines that could apply to this issue.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 a brief description of two challenges faced by forensic psychology professionals when encouraging police professionals to utilize available psychological support and interventions. Explain how you would address these challenges. Then, analyze one ethical issue that the forensic psychology professional could encounter when providing psychological support and interventions. Be specific and cite the applicable ethical guidelines.

CASE TREATMENT STRATEGY PAPER: CASE STUDY

Jeff and Sandy Williams present themselves in your counseling agency. Sandy Williams has called for an appointment and cited family issues along with couple conflict between her and her husband. The office receptionist makes an appointment for the entire family of four.

Jeff and Sandy have been married 21 years. Jeff owns his own used car business, but the downturn in the economy has created financial difficulty for him and Sandy. Sandy has been employed as a teachers aide at a local elementary school for 10 years. Their oldest son, Jacob (18) was diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome several years ago. The youngest son, Leo (15) is having trouble at school.

You have seen the family for two sessions; thus far, the issues presented are that Jeff has a drinking problem. He drinks each day when he arrives home from work and continues until he goes to bed. The next day he remembers little of his late night behaviors or conversations. This has created conflict between him and Sandy.

Due to slow business at the car lot, financial pressure has added to family anxieties. You sense that spending behaviors and lack of financial management are areas that may need some skill building.

Over the last 45 years, Jacobs awkwardness has alienated him socially. Jacob suffers from depression and overall sadness. He feels alone, misunderstood, and struggles with any kind of social engagement. Although Jacob is present during the family counseling sessions, he is both disengaging and silent. He sits, looking at the floor and rocking back and forth. A couple of times when you attempted to draw him into the conversation, he became agitated and began screaming.

Both Sandy and Jeff are perplexed about Jacobss behavior, lack of social skills, and lack of empathy; however, Jeff reacts with anger toward Jacob more so than Sandy. This results in Sandy being angry with Jeff for his reaction toward Jacob. The couple also suffers from loneliness and believes that this may be connected to Jacobs disorder. They both voice that they feel that no one really understands Jacob or what they go through as a family. Due to Jacobs disorder, the family seldom visits with friends or extended family. Many times when they have attempted to do things socially, Jacob either acts out or wants to return home early. This, again, angers Jeff and saddens Sandy.

Sandy and Jeff are also extremely frustrated with various individuals connected with the school system. They indicated that the school is not doing enough to help either of their two sons.

Leo has not contributed much to the conversation while in counseling and seems distant and disengaged from his family. When you have made attempts to draw Leo into the conversation, he has responded with comments like, I guess so, or whatever. Leos grades have been slipping from a B average to a D average over the last couple of years. Leo has few close friends, stays home if he can when the family goes on an outing. He seldom goes out with the family anymore. He reported being increasingly frustrated over the last few years.

Ethically And Culturally Sensitive Evaluation Plans

This discussion offers you an opportunity to identify the ethical and legal issues that will be most relevant to your program evaluation. Address how you will meet the guidelines adopted by the American Counseling Association, the American Evaluation Association, and other applicable ethical and legal standards, as you gather information for your evaluation.

Additionally, consider how you will evaluate the cultural sensitivity of the program by examining the following questions. What data will you need to collect in order to answer these questions?:

  • Are the intended services being delivered to the intended persons? Do particular groups find the services problematic because of their cultural values or practices?
  • Are there needy but unserved persons the program is not reaching? What is known about these unserved persons and why the program is not reaching them?
  • Once in service, do clients complete service? Who drops out, and why? Do particular groups drop out more often than other groups? Could this mean that the services are not sensitive to their cultural needs?

Consider these questions as they apply to your own and your peers’ hypothetical program evaluations.

This will be an expanded post of at least 300350 words that will assist you in developing this part of your Program Evaluation Plan project.

Group Structure

Planning a group involves many steps. Once group members are recruited and screened, group leaders can prepare group members by helping them understand what to expect as a group member. This is part of informed consent and sets the stage for how the group will develop. After reviewing the assigned readings:

  • Describe the challenges of preparing a potential group member who may be hesitant to attend due to concerns for privacy.
  • Describe how group facilitation skills can be used to help new members join a group.

Reflection

  1. Complete all eight  program modules.
  2. Submit a written reflection, where you will give an overview of the program, reflect on how this program specifically applies to you, and identify which principles of Community Psychology (refer back to Ch.1) are incorporated into this program. More specifically, your entry must cover the following:
    • Explain what is the Moving Forward program (2 points)
    • Describe what type of problem-solver you are, based upon the quiz in the program (2 points)
    • Describe what strategies you’ve learned regarding problem-solving (2 points)
    • Comment on each Principle of Community Psychology (from Ch. 1) and if it is applied to this program, and comment, overall, on whether or not you think the Moving Forward program meets the spirit of Community Psychology (4 points)
  • moving foward:
