Module 5

In a two-page paper, research three examples of technologies that use quantum mechanics. Explain, in your own words, how these applications impact society. If you or someone you know has ever had an MRI scan for a medical diagnosis, you have experienced the result of quantum physics for measuring bodily structures. Finally, provide another specific example from your own life that could be influenced by these applications.

Paper must use a minimum of two source, use proper spelling and grammar, and follow APA format.

Problem Solving

When faced with a problem, what do you do to solve it? This assignment asks you to apply a six-step to problem solving process to a specific problem scenario. You will write a paper that presents a synthesis of your ideas about solving the problem using this systematic approach. As Voltaire said, “No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking.”

Your child comes home from school with an assignment sheet for a school project. He / she is very excited about the project and begins work immediately, doing research on the Internet and gathering materials. You read over the assignment sheet and notice that your child is not including all of the required items in the project, and you have some ideas for how to improve the quality of the presentation. You recently read an article in a parenting magazine about the importance of a child developing responsibility for his/ her own learning. You recall the many ways in which your parents took over your school projects. You, on the other hand, want to encourage your child’s confidence in his / her ability to complete a project independently. The next day, you are at the grocery store when you see a parent of a student in your child’s class. That parent has spent over $30 in supplies for the science project and is taking a day off of work to put the pieces of the project together.

Review the six-step problem solving process outlined in the webtext, based on the article “The Problem Solving Process” located at :

  • Step One: Define the problem
  • Step Two: Analyze the problem
  • Step Three: Generate options
  • Step Four: Evaluate options
  • Step Five: Make your decision
  • Step Six: Implement and reflect

Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:

  1. Define the problem in the scenario that you have chosen.
  2. Analyze the problem in the scenario.
  3. Generate options for solving the problem in the scenario.
  4. Evaluate the options for solving the problem.
  5. Decide on the best option for solving the problem.
  6. Explain how you will implement the decision made and reflect on whether this option was the most effective.

Discussion

  • Some sociologists argue that POWER should play a role in a definition of racism. Would you agree or disagree? Why?
  • What other factors, besides power, do you think are important to consider when discussing a definition of racism?
  • Think about your family and upbringing. Think about your peer group, your education, and your life circumstances. Think about the experiences you have had AND those you have not had. What factors have impacted your perspective on racism and HOW have these factors impacted your perspective?

At a minimum, please respond in a paragraph of at least 5-7 sentences to fully address this question.

Discussion

Imagine you are interviewing for a job you really want.

The interviewer asks you the following question: Explain a specific example in which you used critical thinking/problem solving strategies to solve a problem in the real world.

  • What is your answer to the question?
  • Choose one classmates own response to the interviewers question. If you are a job coach, what suggestions would you make to maximize your classmates answer to the interview question?

Topic: Scientific Method and What is Physics?

Thread:  We often discuss science as if the principles dictate nature and that nature behaves according to those principles.  According to Genesis 1, God created the heavens and the earth.  So, everything we are studying in this course is not some principle or law established by God, but it is a principle or a law that mankind has established to model nature and how we believe that Gods creation behaves.

If you visit the Institute of Physics website and look at their definition of physics you will find the following:

The dictionary definition of physics is the study of matter, energy, and the interaction between them, but what that really means is that physics is about asking fundamental questions and trying to answer them by observing and experimenting.

Physicists ask really big questions like:

How did the universe begin?

How will the universe change in the future?

How does the Sun keep on shining?

What are the basic building blocks of matter?

If you think these questions are fascinating, then youll like physics.

The problem with some of these questions is that they are historical in nature.  For example, how did the universe begin?  There is no way to go back and observe the creation of the universe.  Attempts to go back and observe nature lead mostly to intellectual faith and are no more founded than having faith in the revealed, inerrant word that God inspired according to Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.

Describe the scientific method and discuss its validity in determining the theory of how the Universe was formed.  The initial post should be at least 250 words in length.

Physics

Imagine that you want to shoot an apple hanging in a branch with an arrow. You aim the arrow and at the exact time you shoot it, the apple falls from the branch. Will it hit? It should still hit the apple if the air resistance ( wind) is negligible that day. Why will the projectile always hit the falling object it is aimed at if it is fired at the same time the object starts to fall? Think about this problem in terms of projectile motion.

Module 1

In a two-page paper, research how physics is used in a specific profession of your choice. You should identify two physics principles used in the profession as well as explain, in detail, how they are used.

Paper must have a minimum of two sources, use proper spelling and grammar, and follow APA format.

3page Single Space Physics Essay
