Throughout the course of your professional careers–whether working directly in the Human Resource Management field or as the employee of an organization in any field–you will most likely need to conduct performance management. Performance management typically occurs through the setting and evaluation of goals that are set by either you, your supervisor/organization, or a combination of the two. Often, this process is connected to performance appraisals, which can impact promotions, raises, and your standing at the organization. They can also influence the day-to-day work that you do to ensure these goals are met.

Throughout this semester, you’ll conduct your own performance management in 3 stages:

Stage 1. Initial goal(s) setting assignment

Stage 2. A mid-semester goal(s) checkin and update

Stage 3. A final performance management review of your goal(s) at the end of the semester

Please review the assignment instructions below for Phase 1:

Goal setting is the process of identifying something that you want to accomplish and establishing measurable actions and time frames to complete these actions, which will help achieve the overall goal. For this assignment, you will explore at least one goal that you want to set for yourself for this semester. Your goal(s) must be written in the SMART goal format. Review the information below to learn more about goal settings and how to use SMART goals.

STEP 1: Review information on SMART goals

By Deb Peterson

For each of your goal(s), be sure to address all aspects of the S.M.A.R.T. model as detailed in the article:

  • Specific
    • Detailed and precise, not too vague. Write exactly what you want to accomplish.
  • Measurable
    • Generally use numbers to quantify. Establish clear definitions to measure if you are reaching your goals.
  • Action-Oriented/Achievable
    • Describe your goals using action verbs, and outline the exact steps you will take to accomplish your goal in a way that is possible to achieve.
  • Realistic/Relevant
    • Give yourself the opportunity to succeed by setting goals that you will be able to accomplish. Be sure to consider any obstacles you may need to overcome. Also, does goal achievement lead to your long-term goal?
  • Time-based
    • Set a day/time and deadlines for achievement. Decide exactly when you plan to start and finish your goal

STEP 2: Write at least one SMART goal for the semester

  • 1-2 sentences
  • Connect your goal to your own professional/academic/personal growth and development. Make your goal related to things like learning opportunities, skill enhancement, development/growth, etc.
  • Please do NOT make your goal about your grade for this class or other classes.

STEP 3: Current goal(s) status

  • 1 sentence
  • On a scale of 0-5, state how far along are you in achieving your goal. (0 = have not started, 5 = goal completed). No one should be able to state 5 for the first phase of your performance management, otherwise, it is no longer a goal because it is already complete.

STEP 4: Indicators of progress

  • A couple sentences or bullet points
  • State how you will know you achieved your goal(s), including action steps to take to help you achieve your goal(s), and/or any special achievements that will show you’re achieving your goal(s).

Then reply to this person below

The different types of decision making processes are majority rule voting, Roberts Rules of Order, and a consensus. Consensus is a decision making process that is based on the agreement of everyone. Majority rule voting is a process in which an option is chosen if it had more than half of the votes. Roberts Rules of Order is a handbook that is based on the rules and practices of Congress, which revolve around majority voting within large groups. The advantages of CDM in comparison to majority voting and Roberts Rules of Order is having everyones opinion acknowledged and making sure everyone is satisfied with the proposal. Unlike CDM, the other decision-making processes only satisfies some of the population, while the other portion of the population is not in agreement, which creates a minority. Another advantage of CDM is that all participants are engaged and communicative with one another. A disadvantage of a consensus is the time it will take to create a mutual agreement, it is very time consuming; with majority voting and Roberts Rules of Order, its way more quicker to just vote and announce the winning proposal.
Conditions that are necessary for consensus building is a common goal, sufficient time, a clear process, trust and openness, active participation, good facilitation, and a commitment to reach a consensus. Trust and openness is the most important condition to me because in order to come to an effective agreement, everyone must trust each other and their ideas, as well as being open to the other participants ideas.
An experience I have had involving a consensus decision-making process was at home. My parents asked my siblings and I what we wanted to eat for dinner. Each of us choose something different, for example, Domino’s pizza, chinese food, and Popeyes. With such differences, the circumstances that emerged would be someone not being in agreement. So, we decided to go through a consensus; my siblings and I talked it out, and all agreed on Popeyes. We were all in agreement, and were satisfied with the final solution.

Reflect and think about the performance analyses that you have experienced?

Recall a time when the analysis was requested and one when it was not but was done as part of the planning or design phase of the work?

In what ways did the actual analysis differ?

Were the results of that analysis reported back to sponsors differently?

Accepted differently?

If so, why do you think that was?

Community Needs Assessment

As a human services leader, you have expertise in your community and have a sense of services and programs that it may need. While you may notice trends and changes, a more structured approach to gathering and analyzing this information will be required if you hope to launch a new program to address a need. In this paper, you will identify a perceived unmet need in your local community and use it to present a proposed community needs assessment and its projected results.

You will identify the various components of the community needs assessment and their contributions to the process. To provide a visual graphic of your community needs assessment, you will create a logic model, presenting the various components and how they interact with one another. Since human services leaders need to maintain ethical standards and be attentive to diversity, both of these content areas should be integrated into your community needs assessment design.

Instructions

Write a 45 page paper identifying a social problem that is perceived as an unmet need in your local community. Utilizing this topic as context, design a proposed community needs assessment and its projected results. Present the components of community needs assessment and a preliminary application. Highlight issues of ethics, as well as diversity and inclusion.

These ideas are to be communicated in the narrative along with a graphic representation. Create a logic model, which is a specific type of flowchart for graphically presenting this information, to demonstrate your understanding of community needs assessment. Include your logic model as an appendix to your paper.

Be sure to address the following in your paper:

  • Present a social problem that appears to be an unmet need in your local community.
  • Propose a community needs assessment regarding potential programming to address this social problem.
  • Discuss how the community needs assessment addresses accessibility and cultural sensitivity to promote inclusion of diverse populations.
  • Project some community needs assessment results, based on your research in the required readings and other reputable sources.

Support your paper with the required readings and other reputable sources.

Submission Requirements

To complete this assignment successfully, your paper will need to meet the following specifications:

  • Page length: Write a 45 page paper.
  • Communication: Use professional academic writing and apply current APA format and style appropriately.
  • Resources: Support your work with a minimum of 7 reputable sources. Required readings are to be integrated. Use reputable sources to validate your local community need by including local news and local agency information and reports. Reputable sources may include peer-reviewed journals to validate projected results.
  • Font and size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Career 649

  • What were your results for each assessment and what did you learn about yourself? What did you find interesting (i.e. were you surprised by your results)?
  • Compare and contrast test results. Do you find that the results are similar/dissimilar? How do your personality characteristics, interests, values, and skills relate to each other?
  • Describe the characteristics of your ideal career that you would apply to now. Be realistic and specific when considering your career options in the near future (i.e. HR Rep/Campus Recruiter–NOT CEO or HR Manager unless you have qualified experiences). Is this potentially a good and bad career fit for you based on your results?
  • What are the strengths and weaknesses associated with your assessment results (i.e. personality type or interest preferences)? How will your strengths benefit you in your career choice? How can you overcome some of the potential limitations associated with your preferences/types?
