53/3 Assgn

Competing needs arise within any organization as employees seek to meet their targets and leaders seek to meet company goals. As a leader, successful management of these goals requires establishing priorities and allocating resources accordingly.

Within a healthcare setting, the needs of the workforce, resources, and patients are often in conflict. Mandatory overtime, implementation of staffing ratios, use of unlicensed assisting personnel, and employer reductions of education benefits are examples of practices that might lead to conflicting needs in practice.

Leaders can contribute to both the problem and the solution through policies, action, and inaction. In this Assignment, you will further develop the white paper you began work on in Module 1 by addressing competing needs within your organization.

To Prepare:

  • Review the national healthcare issue/stressor you examined in your Assignment for Module 1, and review the analysis of the healthcare issue/stressor you selected.
  • Identify and review two evidence-based scholarly resources that focus on proposed policies/practices to apply to your selected healthcare issue/stressor.
  • Reflect on the feedback you received from your colleagues on your Discussion post regarding competing needs.

The Assignment (4-5 pages):

Developing Organizational Policies and Practices

Add a section to the paper you submitted in Module 1. The new section should address the following:

  • Identify and describe at least two competing needs impacting your selected healthcare issue/stressor.
  • Describe a relevant policy or practice in your organization that may influence your selected healthcare issue/stressor.
  • Critique the policy for ethical considerations, and explain the policys strengths and challenges in promoting ethics.
  • Recommend one or more policy or practice changes designed to balance the competing needs of resources, workers, and patients, while addressing any ethical shortcomings of the existing policies. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Cite evidence that informs the healthcare issue/stressor and/or the policies, and provide two scholarly resources in support of your policy or practice recommendations.

Presenting Evaluation Findings To Stakeholders

In their professional roles, counselors engage in relationships with other human service providers and use strategies for interagency/interorganization collaboration and communication to make improvements for clients.

After reviewing the Guidelines for Effective PowerPoint Presentations multimedia piece earlier in this unit, create a 10-slide PowerPoint that could be used for presenting the results of your hypothetical program evaluation plan, if you were able to carry it out. Post your presentation for comment and constructive feedback by your peers.

Your presentation should include the following slides:

  1. Program Description (name, mission, stakeholders, and broad aims).
  2. Program Evaluation (model and methods used).
  3. Populations Served (including implications for cultural considerations).
  4. Counseling Services Provided (types of programs, such as after-school groups, parent education, et cetera).
  5. Needs Assessment (hypothetical assessments to determine needs and their results).
  6. Outcome/Impact Evaluation (hypothetical results obtained from administration of selected measures).
  7. Conclusions of the Evaluation (hypothetical results about what is successful and what needs improvement).
  8. Ethical Use of Results (cautions about the application of findings).
  9. Recommendations to Stakeholders.
  10. References.

Mini Project For This Assignment, You Will Research The Different Ways That Managers And Leaders Use Communication To Guide Their Organizations.

For this assignment, you will research the different ways that managers and leaders use communication to guide their organizations.

Feel free to use the same organization you researched for the Unit VI Case Study. You are not limited to this organization, but it may be easier to complete the assignment since you have already researched the organization in Unit VI. You can use the same sources for both assignments, if applicable.

Find an instance where the organizational leader communicates directly with his or her employees, investors, or customers. Analyze the message, the channel, and the potential for feedback. Do you believe that it is effective? Do you believe that it is the same type of message that a manager would send? Why, or why not?

Remember to focus on the communication styles of both leaders and managers. Strive for an equal balance between the two types of communication styles in your assignment.

Example: The Apple events that occur in Cupertino whenever Apple unveils a new product or service are examples of the type of communication you should be analyzing in this assignment. During the events, CEO Tim Cook addresses an audience of employees, investors, and the general public. Cook uses multiple channels to communicate with the audience, including a live face-to-face discussion, live streaming of the discussion, and a recorded video. For the assignment, you would view one of the events, analyze Cooks message and the effectiveness of the channels, and discuss the potential for feedback. Analyze whether or not the message is an effective example of leadership. Explain whether or not you believe a manager could, or should, use the same types of channels to relay a message. Would it be effective?

Note: You do not need to use Apple for this assignment. It is provided as an example only.

Use the standard five-paragraph format (introduction/body/conclusion). Include at least two academic sources. APA format should be used. The assignment should be a minimum of two pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. Content, organization, and grammar/mechanics will be evaluated.

Groups For Children And Adolescents

Identify one of the journal articles included in the study of Unit 9 that address the unique considerations for groups with children and adolescents.

  • How does the group described in the article address the special challenges presented in the text regarding leading groups for children or adolescents?
  • Consider the differences for group structure, leadership style, and interventions in your analysis.

LING final paper

Though these papers are relatively short, they should be written as professionally as possible. For instance, they should have introductions and conclusions; they should be very carefully written, and carefully thought out; and so on.
Every paper should have a main original point or argument that ‘holds it together’ whether the suggested topics below discuss this or not. A central focus is critical to a good paper. With every paragraph you write, ask yourself, “What role is this paragraph playing in the overall argument or point I am making with this paper? Is that clear to my reader?”
One aim in writing these assignments is to show that you have done the reading, that you’ve been engaged in the class discussions, and that you can respond critically to the material that has been covered. If you paper makes no contact with course material, it will be weak.
The purpose of the papers is to have you think critically about what you have read and about what has been happening in class. Therefore, your writing assignments should make it clear that you know the relevant reading and know what has happened in class. You should go beyond this, however, drawing on your own experience, extending the ideas to new domains, or responding critically.
It is important to base your points as much as possible on concrete examples of whatever you are writing about, rather than on general assertions alone. Also, define the concepts and terms you bring up.
Given the topics we will discuss, it is very tempting to fall into the trap of making assertions that aren’t supported, relying on feeling or popular opinion more than reason. Please make every effort instead to focus your thinking, make your reasoning clear, and argue for what you say.
Many of these assignments either require you to do some research on your own, or would benefit from that. You should be comfortable using the library resources. If you need help getting started there, talk to one of us, or talk to a librarian.
Write as though your audience is an educated layperson who is not in our class and has no magic knowledge of the material.
Clarity is better than complexity. Simple sentences are OK. (Orwell’s tips on good writing, which well see, aren’t bad!) Please write in order to get your point across, not to impress the reader with your vocabulary or prowess with complex subordinate clauses.
If you cite linguistic examples, italicize them or put them in quotes. E.g., ‘In Maryland the word skillet is used for frying pan’.
It’s really important to understand plagiarism and avoid it. Whenever you are repeating other peoples ideas, or quoting them, you should cite them. A
separate handout provides examples of citation forms and bibliographies.

Quandaries in Health Care

Declining Trust in the Health Care System (The Trust Crisis)

Health reform is mired in the morass of multitier payment systems and multiple modes of access, limited by the ability to seek and to pay. Increasingly, patients are interacting with multiple entities within the system, causing more and more confusion on the part of the patient. According to recent research, patients’ trust in the system, providers, and insurers continues to decline. This may result in a decline in individual health and an increase in costs for health care.

Investigate the declining trust in the health care system from an ethical and moral position. You may use the four principles plus attention to scope model of Beauchamp and Childress or any other ethical model that you choose to address this.

Complete the following:

  • State what model you will use to investigate this issue.
  • Identify 2 or more legal issues contributing to this problem.
  • Identify 2 or more economic and financial issues contributing to this problem.
  • Analyze the impact of various issues that are contributing to this problem, and rank them in order from greatest to least impact.
  • Propose at least 1 modification that would increase trust in the health care system with rationale.
